Two Same Day Edits

These next two are examples of same day edits. I do my best to get something put together for the reception in addition to the slideshow and other pre-wedding things. Sometimes I get to do a full song, and other times, just part of it.

With Riley and Georgann, I drove up to the Logan temple and back, and literally had just two hours before I had to leave for the reception in Salt Lake. Riley is a former quarterback for Utah State, and, ironically, the homecoming parade ended right before they exited the temple! We all teased him for planning it so timely!

The next one is just from last week at the Salt Lake Temple. I've never seen it rain like this at the temple-we only got a couple of family shots on the temple steps and then had to move into the Joseph Smith building. Thankfully, the rain cleared up in time for us to get some shots with Melissa and Andrew. They were great sports, especially Melissa, and Andrew kept us laughing! It was hard to keep the camera still at times because I was laughing so hard :) This is their same day edit that played at their reception that night.

John and Sharry Ceremony Edit

At traditional ceremonies, I don't always have the opportunity to do an edit like this. It depends on how much time I have before and after the ceremony to capture additional footage.

John and Sharry are so in love, and it translates on the video. They were so cute and such a nice couple! I enjoyed spending time with them and their families. It was a beautiful day in June and I love all the blue!

Some Updated Videos

This summer has been crazy and the craziness continues into fall! I thought I'd share some updated videos since it has been awhile.

First up is the final video for Kerby and Aubree. It's been done for a long time, but I forgot to share. I like their video because it's a great example of using a song without words. I think I had this in my head for about two months after I edited it! It's catchy :)

Another beautiful bridal at La Cailles! The grounds are so beautiful, and I love the diversity in the scenery in architecture. It gives photographers and videographers plenty to work with. I also love doing bridals/pre-weddings shoots because everything is so much more relaxed. We can control the time of day to get the best lighting and reschedule if the weather doesn't cooperate. Plus, we're not rushed trying to get off to the reception. This is my brother-in-law and his cute wife Rachael. They spent a lot of time trying to come up with songs that they both liked for their videos, and it all paid off. The songs were perfect, timeless, and classic. Trendy songs tend to get old pretty fast so it's always good to find something that will last. Enjoy!

All I can say is that I was honored to have been a part of Aubree and Kerby's day. These two were so in love and it was contagious. Plus, their reception was AMAZING. I'll post the reception once it's finished so you can see how they transformed the reception space. And I don't think I've seen a sweeter first dance. Amazing family, amazing couple, amazing day.

And this is a good example of how nice it is to do a pre-wedding shoot. We had plenty of time to get good shots, we weren't slaves to the weather or time of day, and everyone was relaxed. Aubree kept saying over and over again how much fun she was having. And it showed!!

Wedding Giveaway!

It's Christmas time, and everyone is in the mood for gift giving, including me! Many couples will be getting engaged and planning weddings in the next few months, but there is one thing that many forget to fit into their wedding budget-their wedding video. I've had many people tell me they wish they would have thought of doing one when they got married. Think about it-it's a video that your children and grandchildren can watch of the most important day of your life! True, you have pictures but they only capture single moments of time. A video captures the personalities, setting, words, feelings in ways that a picture never can. For these reasons, it's important to combine your photos with a video.

I really enjoyed filming at the Draper Temple. It's always nice to shoot somewhere new. Fathima chose the theme from "Twilight" as one of her songs; you don't always need words to make a good video.

Lydia liked what she saw on Lynsie's bridal and wanted to shoot her bridal in Downtown Salt Lake City also. We went at sunset-the perfect time! I loved the soft lighting in a lot of the shots. Lydia was beautiful!

Fun couple and a fun day! Fathima won a contest at a bridal show and got to have a photobooth at their reception. It was really cool-the guests got to take pictures and keep one set for themselves and paste the other in a guest book. So, not only do you have the names of your guests but their pictures too! Very creative and fun.

Descriptions of Services

Temple: The footage of the people at the temple and the couple coming out for the first time, family pictures, and spending time with the couple around the temple grounds, creating a unique video edited to music of the couple's choosing.

Ceremony: Footage of the ceremony from two cameras. Can be put to music and made as a video or just the raw footage edited between the two cameras.

Post-Ceremony: Footage of the couple with their bridal party and on their own following a traditional ceremony.

Ring Ceremony: Many couples who are married in a LDS Temple also have a Ring Ceremony the same day. This is the footage of that ceremony edited together (2 cameras are used).

Bridal Spotlight Video: I go with the bride when she does her bridal photoshoot, or we go on our own, to a location of her choosing and create a video set to a song of her choice.

Pre-Wedding Video: The same as the bridal video, but with the groom too.

Love Story: A couple's interview about how they met, highlights of their courtship, proposal, etc. It is usually interwoven with the photo slideshow.

Date Video: I follow the couple on a date and create a fun little video with highlights of that date set to a song of their choice.

Reception: The highlights of footage taken at the reception put to music of the couple's choosing.

I love the music to this one! It's so fun & upbeat. Following their ceremony, the photographer and I went out the couple and their wedding party to shoot before their reception began. Speaking of their reception, it was one of the best I have ever been to. They had a lot of fun entertainment (Cody is Polynesian) and really knew how to celebrate. Because they had so much going on, we decided not to do the standard reception video. Rather, I took the raw footage and edited it nicely together so they could see all of the highlights from the day as it happened at the reception.

Daylight Productions began in the Spring of 2009. After training with several videographers and editors, I decided to follow my passion and start a business doing what I love. I enjoy sharing the wedding day with a couple and their families, and meeting so many wonderful people. Because I believe the wedding video is one of the most important things a couple will have from their wedding day, I not only make videography affordable, but also a treasured work of art based on the couple's personality and style.

I often find that many don't completely understand the role of a videographer in their wedding. Do they shoot the video and then just return it on a DVD? No. That's something Uncle Ernie can do. I take the footage of your wedding and spend a good deal of time editing it to music or piecing it together to make it easy and pleasurable to watch. Who wants to watch something and feel like they're in an earthquake? Also, a professional videographer understands how to handle the camera to avoid the "earthquake" feel. They see the artistic and creative shots that highlight various aspects of your day, rather than just your standard "point and shoot" style. You want your video to be uniquely your own, and that's exactly what I strive to do.

Lynsey was so much fun to work with! We did her bridals in downtown Salt Lake City. She was so self-conscious about the attention she was attracting (and rightly so because she looked gorgeous!), which made her laugh quite a bit (especially when the Trax train pulled in) . She and her husband, Cody, are a great couple and I'm grateful I had the opportunity to work with them. Stay tuned for their wedding and reception videos!
